Printmaking at The Hive!

Organized by Asha Srikantiah, Nick Endicott, Wing-Yee Law

Printmaking at The Hive - Description

Come learn how to make prints using wood-block and screen printing techniques. You'll walk away from this session with new skills you can use anytime at The Hive, and a piece of new art to bring in the new year.

Any Prerequisite Skills or Knowledge Needed?

Nope! All are welcome!

When, Where, What

WHEN:

This session will be held one time, on Wednesday Jan 12, from 1PM - 6PM.

WHERE:

@ The Hive (~10 minute walk from Mudd) - MAP

WHAT:

You can come for Block Printing, Screen Printing, or both!

For Block Printing:

Drop in anytime before 4:30pm, and try your hand at carving and printing using rubber blocks. You'll probably need at least 1.5 hours to design, carve and print, so we suggest you arrive by 4:30pm to get the most out of it.

You'll have the choice of using nice paper to make art prints to hang on your wall, or a tote bag so you can carry your art on the go!

For Screen Printing:

We'll hold 2 sessions of screen printing, for 12 students each.

Session 1: 1pm - 3:15pm (arrive by 12:45pm)

Session 2: 3:30pm - 5:45pm (arrive by 3:15pm)

During each session, we'll teach you how to turn a design of your choice into a silk-screened work of art. You'll learn how to transfer your image, how to burn screens, and how to print.

You'll have the choice of using nice paper to make art prints to hang on your wall, or a tote bag so you can carry your art on the go! If you'd like to print on a t-shirt or any other item, you are welcome to bring that.

If you have a design you're already excited to screen print, bring the image file - just keep in mind that black & white images work best. If you don't know what you want to print - don't worry! We'll have plenty of materials and inspiration on hand.

For Both:

Just show up early in the session (ideally by 12:45), to ensure you have plenty of time to try both!
